King Kong

This morning, we have been learning the opening to the Anthony Browne story King Kong. We have put in actions and then worked in groups to draw story maps. Hopefully, we can use some of his fantastic description in our own writing!

Building our models

It Because we didn't want to waste any wood, we decided to make our model out of artstraws first. This proved quite tricky as we learned how important it is to measure accurately! We created 3D shapes and included lots of triangles (the strongest shape).

Introducing new materials....

We then began investigating different types of bridges and also different materials that we could use to make our own. Luckily, we had a lot of wood and began to find out ways we could join the wood together the best.

Some methods, such as PVA, were more successful than others!!!! The Pritti stick really didn't work!

The bridge problem!

As part of our first week back, Miss Ogden decided we were going to have to solve a problem. It was all to do with bridges! We began by investigating shapes and how strong they were.

We had to try to create a bridge out of one piece of paper that would hold the weight of a timer. It wasn't easy!!!! Then we had to make a tower using a range of different materials. The winning height was over 120cm!!!
